Teleskin ApS announced that it is raising funds via a rewards crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo to support the further development and geographic expansion of the skinScan app.
The skinScan app, which is based on the knowledge and experience of physicians with over 30 years’ experience in the field of skin cancer, has seen great success in Scandinavia where it has been downloaded over 110.000 times and helps thousands of people assess and monitor their moles each month.
Currently the app is only available on the iOS platform and is limited to Scandinavia, Australia and New Zealand. To expand its availability, TeleSkin has set out to raise €20.000 to develop an Android version of the app and to launch in several new markets.
Where available, the skinScan app is free to download. When a user scans a mole and answers a few simple questions, the app will provide the user with immediate feedback if the mole is typical or atypical. The algorithm and the feedback to users is built around the recognized ABCDE analysis to assess moles. If a mole is identified as atypical, the app will suggest that the user see a doctor for a closer examination.
The skinScan app does not provide a diagnosis and it does not replace seeing a physician, but it is a tool that helps people with continuous self-monitoring of their skin, and to track their moles in between physician visits.
